KEVIN the Carrot has returned for another year in Aldi’s heartwarming Christmas advert. The discounter’s Christmas reel launches today, Thursday, November 5, airing on UK television for the first time at 8pm. The advert opens on a tender note as Chantenay, Kevin’s daughter, wishes for the safe return of the family’s beloved floret friend, Cauli Dog. Kevin and Chantenay put up ‘LOST’ posters and soon discover a trail of tiny paw prints, leading them into the snow-dusted wilderness to continue their search. Along the way, a well-meaning scarecrow’s questionable directions send them briefly off course and bring them face-to-face with what appears to be a grizzly bear, only for it to be revealed as a cuddly squirrel. Kevin also takes a tumble during the adventure, adding one of the funny moments fans have come to expect from the popular carrot’s festive escapades. read more on money The paw prints eventually lead them back home, where the Carrot clan searches every corner with a fine-tooth comb before hearing soft snoring coming from inside a Christmas cracker. In a heartwarming finale, Chantenay’s Christmas wish comes true. Cauli Dog is found safe and sound, with Chantenay declaring: “Cauli, I love you.” The advert closes with Aldi’s festive endline: “All You Want For Christmas.” Aldi often bases its Christmas adverts around popular movies, with last year taking inspiration from Love Actually. It sees glamorous grandma Gloria, played by Dame Kristin Scott Thomas, struggling to entertain her grandchildren and resorting to giving them cash for Christmas. But her childhood toy dog, Pickles, magically comes to life and takes her on a last-minute shopping adventure. The story aims to tackle a very modern dilemma – the dreaded fear of buying a rubbish present. However, many have branded it as “dreadful” and “not heartwarming at all”. Piers Morgan labelled it “possibly the worst advert I’ve ever seen for anything.”. So far, Lidl’s Christmas reel, starring EastEnders’ star Shaun Williamson and Chris Kamara, has stolen the show with fans calling it “ten times better” than the department store.
