James Acaster was reportedly so distraught after revealing he was a Traitor on last night's show that filming was halted and the welfare team was called in. The comedian came under fire from actor Michael Sheen, a Faithful, who questioned how he knew about specific details related to the 'murder' of Ross Kemp. Acaster then admitted to being a Traitor before he had even been voted off at the Round Table, with one insider telling the Daily Mail that filming was paused because he became 'anxious' and had to gather himself before making his speech. The 41-year-old and his fellow Traitor Maya Jama tricked Kemp, 62, into yawning on a previous episode, which saw him eliminated after he had inhaled a 'deadly perfume'. Sheen, 57, then turned on the pair over Kemp's 'murder in plain sight', saying: 'If you are Traitors, you've done it brilliantly.' Seeing that the actor had rumbled him, Acaster replied: 'I understand how you've put it all together. I can't really argue that it sounds feasible, and that sounds like it could have happened. I can promise you that I didn't spray him.' In a shock admission, the comedian then turned to the group and said: 'I just want to explain my situation. I was made a Traitor without wanting to be. 'I've had a unique experience on this that no one has had before, where I wanted to be a Faithful; that's all I wanted to be. I couldn't just go, "Guys, it's me, vote for me." But that's all I can do, really.' In a show first, comedian James Acaster revealed he was a Traitor at the round table before the vote had even begun Maya Jama and Acaster both came under fire, as the Faithfuls linked them to Ross Kemp's murder in plain sight The insider explained that filming was paused to allow Acaster to calm down before talking to the group. They said: 'The pressure got to him, and it was clear he was finding it difficult. Everyone agreed filming should be stopped before things got too heated. 'Everyone was aware of the pressure getting to James throughout the series; it was difficult to watch him struggling.' Acaster received all of the votes and before his exit told his fellow celebrities: 'When I came into this experience, I told Claudia that all I wanted to be was a Faithful, and all I wanted to do was go round this castle and help the Faithfuls as much as possible, catching Traitors. I'm really proud to say that's what I've been able to do under the circumstances. 'I am, reluctantly, a Traitor,' he added, admitting a 'weight has been lifted off his shoulders'. Tonight’s Celebrity Traitors final will see Ms Jama, King Kenny, Romesh Ranganathan, James Blunt, Leigh-Ann Pinnock and Sebastian Croft compete to win the prize pot – which currently stands at £64,500 – for their chosen charity. Talking about Acaster and Ms Jama, Michael Sheen said at the table: 'If you are Traitors, you've done it brilliantly' Sheen quizzed Acaster on the specifics of the murder in plain sight, including how he knew about the deadly perfume bottle - before he finally cracked Viewers also bid farewell to Faithful Joanne McNally, who was banished during a tense roundtable after last week's cliffhanger Then it was Scottish actress Sharon Rooney who was brutally murdered by the Traitors Fans dubbed Acaster's admission the most 'unprecedented twist in TV history'. Reacting to the scene, users on X wrote: 'Nah James A just gave up on the game completely what am I watching'. 'JAMES JUST OUTING HIMSELF AS A TRAITOR AT THE ROUND TABLE', 'easily the most unprecedented twist in traitors history'. 'Our entire living room when James Acaster said he was a traitor before the vote took place #CelebrityTraitors'. Ms Jama appeared defeated, telling viewers: 'Tonight was the hardest night of the whole experience. 'No words, no thoughts. I knew James didn't want to be a Traitor after we chose him. There was not one piece of me that could jump up when he said he was a Traitor. I've played a good acting game so far, but that part I just couldn't pretend.' In the early days of the production, insiders revealed that Acaster had become so stressed while filming at Ardross Castle that his co-stars flagged their concerns about him to producers. A source said at the time: 'The show is incredibly intense and during one particular scene at the castle, James became very anxious and panicked. Viewers spotted a major editing error during the tense scenes. As the camera cut to Acaster's co-stars to capture their shocked reaction, Romesh Ranganathan was seen with his chalkboard already in front of him and part of the letter 'J' visible 'Some of the other celebrities on the show spoke up and said cameras should stop rolling so he could calm down, and production were in agreement as well. 'Everyone looks out for each other and there is a proper sense of camaraderie. It was good for James to have a breather, as everyone felt it was for the best.' Acaster has previously referenced his autism diagnosis in his stand-up shows, discussing how neurodivergence shapes his perspective and creative process. Meanwhile, viewers spotted a major editing error during the tense scenes on the BBC show. As the camera cut to Acaster's co-stars to capture their shocked reaction to his speech at the round table, comedian Ranganathan was seen with his voting chalkboard already in front of him. The top of a letter 'J' could be clearly be seen on the slate, despite the fact that the vote did not take place until after Acaster dropped his bombshell. 'Editors watching that clip back and realising the timeline doesn't even pretend to make sense anymore,' commented one fan on X. The Traitors' downfall started earlier in the episode when they committed their sixth murder. Acaster, Ms Jama and King Kenny, 29, chose to kill Sharon Rooney, 38, despite the actress having come under fire at the previous round table. 'This could actually ruin all of our futures,' Ms Jama said, with Acaster adding: 'This is a risky move, but I'm proud of us that we are taking such a big gamble at this point.' Earlier at the breakfast table, Ms Jama also made a slip-up, which luckily went undetected among the Faithfuls. When discussing catching Traitors, she shouted, 'Let's murder them,' when she meant to say, 'Let's banish them'. Viewers also bid farewell to Faithful Joanne McNally, 43, who was banished after last week's cliffhanger. Just the two of us. And yet now I think she's a Traitor' 'What a journey it's been, but you guys have made it to the penultimate night in the castle, and that is worth celebrating,' Winkleman told the celebrities Speaking about her experience in an exit interview, the comedian explained: 'It was confronting. It was more hardcore than I could ever have imagined, and the speed at which you get sucked into the game is frightening. 'You go in, everyone's holding hands and laughing, and within 24 hours you're living in a palace of paranoia, accusing your own mother of killing people, and she's not even in the show.' Outside the picturesque Ardross Castle, the remaining celebrities raised a glass to celebrate alongside host Claudia Winkleman. The host told them: 'What a journey it's been, but you guys have made it to the penultimate night in the castle, and that is worth celebrating. 'Here's the thing, though: the Traitors are thirsty for blood. There will be one final murder tonight. And on that note, I say this. Enjoy your drinks and sleep well, if you can.' But in the celebratory moment, Sheen told the camera: 'Right at the end there, it was just me and Maya again. Just the two of us. And yet now I think she's a Traitor. 'I'm just sort of thinking, is this the last night I have here? Only the night will tell.' With the Faithfuls on to Ms Jama, and after Acaster's downfall, it is all to play for. Acaster has earned a new army of fans with his stint in the castle and has become the show's 'accidental sex symbol'. The star shared that he first learned of his heartthrob status when co-star Sebastian Croft began sending him screenshots of edits fans had made for him. Appearing on The Late Late Show earlier this month, Acaster explained: 'So I'm not on social media, but Bash [Croft], who is also on Traitors, started texting me screengrabs. He's very giddy about everything, and he was like, "Look at this, teenagers fancy you".' 'And I was going, "That's not exciting Bash!"' The comic may have been branded 'the internet's new boyfriend', but the Daily Mail has revealed that Acaster is in fact very much taken – and has been for some time. For the comic has been in a relationship with senior television executive Hannah Rose since 2022. A family member told the Daily Mail: 'They've been together for a few years now. They are very happy together. They lead a fairly quiet life together.' Acaster had previously been in a relationship with actress Louise Ford – but she left him for Rowan Atkinson in 2014 after they appeared in a West End play together. The comedian revealed he only found out Ms Ford, 45, had dumped him for the 71-year-old when he read it in a newspaper. But he got together with Ms Rose after meeting her when she worked on his BBC podcast James Acaster's Perfect Sounds, which ran from 2020 to 2022. The show, where he discussed his favourite albums, was an attempt to rekindle his love for music following his breakup.
