‘I go to Far East as 12-year-olds are legal there’ – Thomas Markle’s ex-wife revealed sick ‘confession’ in letter to Met

THE Duchess of Sussex’s estranged father told his first wife he went to the Far East “because 12-year-olds are legal there”, The Sun can reveal. Roslyn Loveless made the claim about Thomas Markle Snr in a letter she sent to the Met Police in 2019. A minister in the Philippines — where Markle is being investigated over alleged child abuse images — said material found at his home suggested he could be a “possible sex offender of the grossest kind”. Markle, 82, denies the claims. Interior minister Jonvic Remulla also revealed a laptop was found at the property in Cebu City where the Duchess of Sussex’s dad lived until May. Authorities in the South East Asian country will begin forensic examination today and could have completed the process in a week. Read More on UK News Mr Remulla told The Guardian: “In these cases where family disputes are mixed up, we have to consider all the angles. “Right now all signs point to a possible sex offender of the grossest kind. We want to be sure before we release the findings.” No laptops had been included in the stash of material crammed into four boxes taken into Cebu City’s police HQ by Markle Snr’s son — and Meghan’s half-brother — Thomas Jnr on Friday. However Mr Remulla revealed a subsequent search of the home uncovered a laptop and “trove of child sexual abuse images”. Most read in The Sun It came as a letter sent by Markle Snr’s ex-wife Roslyn Loveless to Met cops in 2019 claimed he went to the Far East “because 12-year-olds are legal there”. Ms Loveless sent the seven-page letter, seen by The Sun, to Scotland Yard’s Fixated Threat Assessment Centre (FTAC). She was wed to Markle Snr from 1964-75 and died two years ago. In the letter she said she put an allegation of child sex abuse to him. She wrote: “I questioned Thomas Snr — he denied accusation but stated that he went to the Philippines and Thailand because 12-year-olds are legal there.” Markle Snr moved to Cebu City in January 2025 and left in May. He has admitted “sleeping with prostitutes” but denies child abuse. Speaking on the assumption that Markle Snr did make the remark alleged by Roslyn, ex-Met Det Chief Insp Mick Neville said: “To say you’re going to the Philippines as it’s legal to have sex with a 12-year-old is indicative of someone with a perverted sexual interest in children.” Roslyn’s letter was addressed to FTAC, which analyses intelligence about threats to the Royal Family and VIPs from obsessives. The letter accused Markle Snr and another person of being a threat to the safety of the Duchess of Sussex and her husband Prince Harry. A decision was made to share the information in the letter with the Sussexes and Royalty Protection officers passed it on to their office. The Met did not have jurisdiction to investigate the allegations in the letter because they were said to have occurred abroad. However, the Met admitted over the weekend that it had not referred matters raised in the letter to relevant legal authorities abroad who could have investigated. The failure to do so has caused Meghan “concern”, say friends. Meghan said in a bombshell statement on Friday that she had been assured investigations were being carried out into the claims against her father. The Met is conducting a review of the case pending a decision on whether to refer itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. In 2019 the age of consent in the Philippines was 12. However, it was still an offence then to pay for sex with anyone under 18. In a 2017 interview with In Touch magazine, Thomas Markle Jnr said he knew his dad visited Thailand and the Philippines in the past. The first time was when Meghan was a toddler, he said. And he described how his father bragged about his trips, saying you could “get two women for a weekend for 50 bucks”. Markle Jnr found the stories “disturbing”. He also claimed his dad sent packages and gifts to “friends” in the Far East. Markle Snr has told The Mail on Sunday he travelled to the Philippines at least twice to “sleep with prostitutes” but said “I like Asian women but that’s not a crime”. Interviewed by In Touch in 2017, Markle Jnr said: “The first time that I knew my dad went to Thailand was in the early 1980s when he was married with Doria (Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland). “He went for a couple of weeks, and I just remember it so well because when he came back, he gave me some pretty amazing, what they call Thai Sticks. “Later in life, when my dad told me told me about his trips to Thailand, we were on the subject of talking about women and we were out having a couple of beers and shooting a game of pool. “I think he says you know you can get two women for the weekend for 50 bucks, and the things they’ll do to you are incredible. You’ll be a changed man. “I kind of left it at that and didn’t want to talk about it any more. And I know of a couple other times that he was talking about going over there. “So he said, something about dental work . . . all kinds of stuff you could get over there really done really cheap. “I know he’s been over to Asia three times: first time to Thailand, second time to the Philippines. “I think he talked about going back to Thailand or the Philippines or both. But he goes for a couple weeks at a time. “So when my father talked to me about the girls on the trips to Thailand, it was disturbing, and I didn’t want to discuss it any further with him.” Markle Jnr said his dad and Doria had several rows at the time which were “pretty horrendous, a lot of yelling and screaming”. The Sun on Sunday exclusively revealed Meghan wrote to her dad in a Cebu City hospital last December saying she knew he had abused young girls and that she would never allow him to meet his grandkids, Archie and Lilibet. Markle Snr has told The Daily Mail that he has a “vague memory” of receiving Meghan’s letter. He is currently at a Florida rehab centre, reportedly does not know where the letter is and has been diagnosed with dementia. Following global concerns about child sex prostitution, in 2022 the Filipino government raised the age of consent to 16 and it is now classified as statutory rape to have sex with a child under that age. Again, speaking on the assumption that Markle Snr did make the remark alleged in Roslyn’s letter, retired Det Chief Insp Neville said: “Once the police here received a letter saying that someone wanted to have sex with youngsters, it should have been passed on to US authorities straight away. “At the very least it would provide potentially important intelligence about that person. There are liaison officers from the NYPD and FBI who work closely with the Met. “There is no excuse for not passing that letter on to them.” National Police Colonel Allen Rae Co said its Women and Children Protection Center-Visayas Field Unit was leading the investigation into Markle Snr.
