THIS is the hilarious moment Prince William revealed he dreamt of a DJ career as a youngster and even reveals his stage name. In a surprise appearance on the Graham Norton Show yesterday evening, the Prince of Wales discussed what he had wanted to do if he wasn’t a royal. Norton asked if the Prince had ever considered another career as a child. William responded: “I’m rapidly trying to think about what I can say on television.” “I did want to be a policeman when I was younger. I thought I could make a good policeman.” He even had a joke with Robert Irwin that if they had met when the Prince was younger he might have wanted to wrangle crocodiles. But the future king then shocked everyone, admitting: “I went through a phase where I wanted to be a DJ, which didn’t go very well.” The audience and couch erupted in laughter as he revealed the un-princely-like career. William then carried on: “And I came up with a name, I was called DJ Xara, with an X. It wasn’t good”. Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham responded saying: “DJ Xara? That’s rubbish”. Most read in Royals Movie star Cate Blanchett was confused about where the X went in the name. Norton asked William whether he ever DJ’d at school parties during the hilarious exchange, but William admitted: “No I didn’t. I never got that good”. The future King was greeted with cheers from the audience as he became the first royal to sit on the chat show’s iconic sofa as part of a special Earthshot Prize edition. He joined Hollywood star Cate Blanchett, Australian conservationist Robert Irwin and actress Hannah Waddingham on the BBC show. The Prince, who founded the Earthshot Prize in 2020, chatted about his love of Aston Villa and films by director Christopher Nolan. But much of the conversation focused on his flagship environmental initiative and its mission to tackle climate change. William spoke about the need to combine urgency with optimism when addressing the environmental crisis. He also explained how the Earthshot Prize identifies promising innovators around the world and helps them expand their solutions to have a greater impact. The royal stressed that climate change could not be tackled by one person or initiative alone. He said the prize could help bring together a global network of innovators, investors and advocates to drive change. Waddingham, who hosted the 2023 Earthshot Prize Awards in Singapore, praised the support given to finalists. She also highlighted how the prize connects innovators with the expertise, networks and investment they need to grow their work.
