Jeffrey Donaldson facing new police probe over alleged rape of woman in Parliament
Jeffrey Donaldson is facing a new police probe over an alleged rape of a woman in the Houses of Parliament. The disgraced politician has been accused of raping the woman in Westminster in 2016. It is understood the alleged victim has been interviewed by Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) officers before the case was passed to Scotland Yard officers. A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police told the BBC: "On Tuesday 13 October, the Met received a report referred to us by the Police Service of Northern Ireland relating to an allegation of rape in 2016, by a man now aged 63. "The allegation relates to one victim who is being supported by specialist officers. "The investigation is in its early stages. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing." Last week, the ex-MP was sentenced to 15 years in jail for historical child sex offences against two women when they were children. The 63-year-old showed no "regret, apology or shame" after being convicted of 18 offences earlier this year, Judge Paul Ramsey told Newry Crown Court. The child sex offender qualifies for an automatic 50 per cent remission of his sentence, meaning he will spend seven-and-a-half years in prison and seven-and-a-half years on licence. Judge Ramsey said: "There has not been, and doubtless will not be, one word of regret, apology or shame from this man to at least provide his victims with some crumb of comfort." Speaking to the former MP in the dock before handing down his sentence, the judge told the convict: "You are now 63 years of age. "It is well known that you, in the course of your political career, have reached the very heights of public office, and this is, on any view, a catastrophic descent into disgrace. "It is only through the courage, resourcefulness, and determination of two young women that you’ve been brought to justice in respect of the crimes you committed against them when they were children. "You persistently denied these offences and continued to do so, but you’ve been found guilty by a jury, and it’s now my duty to sentence you for these crimes." While Donaldson denied the offences, the jury convicted him of one count of rape, 13 counts of indecent assault and four counts of gross indecency. Donaldson, the convicted paedophile, has been stripped of his knighthood and ousted from the Privy Council. Follow related topics:
