30 killed in Ukraine after bomb explodes next to buses

Article text

THIRTY people were killed and at least 18 wounded after a bomb exploded next to buses in eastern Ukraine, authorities said today. The morning attack occurred next to a bus stop in the Donetsk region city of Kramatorsk, prompting public transport to be suspended. “There is no doubt that Russia is cynically targeting civilians,” said Oleksandr Honcharenko, head of the city’s military administration, adding that the rescue effort had been hampered by Russian drone attacks. The incident follows missile strikes a day earlier in the northern town of Pryluky, where the death toll rose to 22, including five children, with at least 54 wounded. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky used the attack to call for additional military support from Nato countries, writing on his socials: “It is important that support in words takes concrete form in new packages for Ukraine’s defence.” In Russia, technology giant Yandex said one of its data centres was damaged in a Ukrainian drone attack. Ukraine said its forces struck a large oil refinery complex in the city of Salavat.
