Anthony Gordon quickly backtracks on Trent Alexander-Arnold comment in live ITV interview after England win over Czechia
ANTHONY GORDON appeared to suggest Trent Alexander-Arnold “probably should’ve played more for England” – before quickly backtracking. The 25-year-old put on an impressive performance as England cruised to a 2-0 win over Czechia. He also added to his international goal tally, heading home a cross from Alexander-Arnold just moments into the second half. Gordon was asked about the inclusion of the full-back – who made his first start for the Three Lions in almost two years – after the match. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! And in response, he said: “I make that run time and time again and only a certain number of players have got that ability, technique and bravery to be willing to make the mistake trying that pass, so credit to Trent. “That’s why he’s so good and I’ve been dying to play with him for that reason.” READ MORE IN FOOTBALL The former Newcastle ace then began to say that Alexander-Arnold should’ve played more, but quickly changed the discussion. It came following the suggestion from many fans and pundits that the Real Madrid superstar should have been included in Thomas Tuchel‘s World Cup squad. He continued: “He’s had his own journey with England. “Probably should’ve played… Would’ve liked to have played more than he has, sorry, but he’s been a great character during this camp, I’ve really enjoyed being around him.” Most read in Sport BEST ONLINE CASINOS – TOP SITES IN THE UK On his return to the England squad, Alexander-Arnold said: “Amazing, it’s always an honour to represent my country. The manager gave me a chance, hopefully he is happy with how I played.” He also went on to say it was “great” to play with Gordon. The full-back added: “It’s a great compliment and it’s great to play with him.” England next face Croatia on Saturday before another meeting with Czechia. ENGLAND RATINGS: Anthony Gordon new darling of Three Lions faithful as Saka can’t quite link up with Alexander-Arnold IT was a routine victory for Thomas Tuchel here in the Czech capital – and one that never looked in doubt after Pavel Sulc’s 25th-minute red card. But there were other notable performances, including the return of Trent Alexander-Arnold after more than a year and yet another goal for Harry Kane.
