Five men who were arrested in relation to the incident near the military base on Sunday were released on bail earlier today - but all five remain under investigation. The group of men, who are also from London and aged in their 20s, were detained yesterday on suspicion of terrorism and explosives offences. A local farmer raised the alarm after spotting three vans close to the Gloucestershire base used by US forces. But Iran has "categorically rejected" involvement in the suspected bomb plot at RAF Fairford. Police have confirmed they are considering "every possible angle" - including a hostile state deploying proxies. The material discovered by authorities was not viable explosives. RAF FAIRFORD LATEST: The incident took place early on Sunday morning |PA Police, however, said the investigation remains ongoing. Speaking outside Scotland Yard earlier today, Head of UK Counter Terrorism Policing, Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor, said: "Following extensive interviews and inquiries, the five men who were arrested are being released on police bail this afternoon. "To be very clear, this does not mean that the investigation is over. "They are subject to stringent conditions on their movement and contact with others. They absolutely remain under investigation as we explore multiple lines of inquiry." He added that police are keeping an open mind. One possibility they are considering is whether proxies "either knowingly or unknowingly working on behalf of a foreign state". Today, the Prime Minister announced in Liverpool that he wanted to acquire the "full picture" on what happened ahead of chairing a Cobra meeting. The airspace over the military site has been temporarily restricted after the incident until October 5.
