Donald Trump announces major Greenland deal with Denmark – 'All concerns addressed' Donald Trump has announced an agreement between the US, Denmark and Greenland - and described it as a 'dream come true' The United States has secured an "infinite life" agreement to have control over security in Greenland, Donald Trump says. Making the announcement tonight, the president described the development as a "dream come true for the United States of America". Writing on his Truth Social platform, he said: "I am pleased to announce that the United States of America has entered into an Agreement with The Kingdom of Denmark and Greenland, that gives the United States permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland, completely addressing ALL of our many U.S. concerns." The president claimed change will come at no cost to the US and that Washington will "immediately" begin developing a "large" military presence in the "appropriate" part of Greenland. Trump intensified pressure on Greenland in January this year to become part of the United States, arguing the self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark is vital to US security. He has also often spoken of buying Greenland, saying the US will obtain it "one way or another". Denmark and Greenland repeatedly said the island is not for sale and condemned reports of the US gathering intelligence there. Trump's push for Greenland was also opposed by Russia and much of Europe. In his statement tonight, Trump added: "At my direction, we worked with representatives of Denmark and Greenland to guarantee that the United States will FOREVER have the complete ability to do what is necessary in Greenland in order to secure and defend the security of Greenland, and the United States of America." The president emphasised that from now on, no US adversary will "ever" have a base, military presence or make "sensitive investments" in Greenland without the US' "express written approval". Trump went on: "For over 100 years, Presidents have known the strategic importance of Greenland, but NONE of them were able to do anything about it. "I am proud to be the President that permanently and conclusively addressed this very important situation. This is an “Infinite Life” Agreement, there is no end! "We are very honored and proud of what has just taken place, and everything agreed to today will be cherished by the American People." Trump described Greenland as a "large and highly strategic parcel of land" and said the US will be "very protective of it". "This is a dream come true for the United States of America, one that is very important, historic, and special," he concluded. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Fox News Digital that Denmark and Greenland "understand that they don't have the financial means necessary to defend Greenland if it were to come under attack or be threatened". He added: "The United States has the power to do that."
