Ariana is performing her final ever show tonight (September 1) in London before she takes a step back from the public eye. Just hours before she takes to the stage, Jonathan shared a statement revealing his surprise exit in support of Ariana's decision to also withdraw. He wrote on Instagram: 'Ari is one of my dearest friends, and my support for her is unwavering. 'Marianne [the production's director] is extraordinary and one of my longest collaborators and friends. After much consideration, I have decided to step back from Sunday in the Park with George. 'This brilliant, introspective musical has been a real passion project for me, and I feel incredibly lucky to have shared in its journey with this team. Jonny x' Jonathan was seen smiling and dancing the night away at the singer's Eternal Sunshine tour in London last week. The Wicked co-stars, who are close friends, were due to star opposite each other in the production at the Barbican Centre next summer. The pair will both be recast as theatre bosses actively look for new talent. Ariana announced her decision to step back from visibility last month and confirmed she would no longer be taking part in the West End show. Ariana's spokesman told PEOPLE: 'Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour. 'She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny.' 'This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much.' The production will open at the Barbican in summer 2027 as planned, and casting will be announced in due course.' Ariana's appearance has come under scrutiny in recent months, especially following the release of her new music video, Petal. She has publicly insisted that she's healthy but that didn't stop fans from pointing out how incredibly gaunt she looks in the violent music video.
