Officers from Bedfordshire Police in a marked car were alerted to a grey Audi driving without lights on in High Street South in Dunstable. The driver failed to stop for police and a pursuit ensued as the vehicle quickly made off on the A5183 towards Markyate. At around 10.37pm, the grey Audi left the carriageway and crashed with a tree. However despite best efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 11.30pm. His next of kin have now been informed and are being supported by specialist offers. Detectives from the IOPC have since launched an investigation. A cordon was in place on the A5 between the Kensworth Turn and Caddington whilst emergency services responded. The road has now reopened.
