Man City legend and TNT Sports pundit’s son, 17, makes Carabao Cup debut in stunning 3-2 win

THE son of a Manchester City legend and TNT Sports pundit made his senior debut in a stunning Carabao Cup win. Barnsley came from behind to beat Crewe Alexandra 3-2 on an eventful night at Oakwell. And as well as the League One side progressing to round three, it was a special evening for a certain 17-year-old. Midfielder Tayo Dunne came on for the final five minutes to make his Barnsley bow. He completed all three of his attempted passes and – despite Crewe pulling one back in the 89th minute – helped his side hold on to advance. Tayo is the son of ex-City, Everton, Aston Villa and QPR defender Richard Dunne. His son has already represented the country too, featuring for the Republic of Ireland at Under-15 level. And Dunne Jr gave an insight into what it has been like trying to follow in his father’s footsteps. Speaking to Barnsley’s in-house media last November – in a clip the Tykes put back out after his debut – Tayo said: “I was at Stockport before I came here and I lived over in Monaco before, playing for Monaco and a local team as well. Most read in Football SUN VEGAS WELCOME OFFER: GET UP TO £100 BONUS “Obviously, the football is very different – it’s a lot more physical over here. “Because of the heat there, there’s not as much running, it’s a bit slower and more technical. “Obviously, it’s a lot different living in Barnsley than it is in Monaco but I’m adapting well.” On his dad’s influence, Dunne Jr added: “He’s been really helpful, coming to every game, watching them all back with me, helping out a lot. “I have to say thanks for everything. “I’ve always loved football. I don’t really know anything about anything else – I’m really not good at anything else. “I’m doing alright in football, so hopefully I can go far.” And Barnsley fans were loving the unearthed video – not least because of the physical resemblance between the father and son. One said: “I bet his dad Richard is proud.” Another wrote: “What a champ.” And a final user replied: “He’s the spit of his dad!”
