Moving Rudakubana from prison to a secure hospital despite his wicked crimes makes a mockery of the justice system

So the decision to move him from prison to a secure psychiatric hospital makes a mockery of the justice system — and inflicts fresh trauma on the victims of his murderous rampage. If the authorities had been as concerned about his mental health BEFORE the attack, three little girls who just wanted to dance would still be alive. Yet he was discharged by a psychiatrist just three months before he went on his terrifying knife frenzy. When will our soft-touch justice system realise that not all violent criminals are mentally ill — but just plain evil. Justice Secretary Alex Norris must demand an explanation of who approved this switch and why. Many people think Rudakubana’s crimes were so wicked, he no longer deserves to be alive himself. The least we can expect is that he spends the rest of his days staring at the four walls of a prison cell. Fugitive’s let-off LABOUR’S scheme to free convicts on to our streets was cooked up to fix the prison overcrowding crisis. But now it’s offering a “get out of jail early” card to fugitives. Victims of a convicted child rapist who is on the run and has never served a day behind bars have been told he will be eligible for time off his 22-year stretch — if he ever gets caught. This is simply justice delayed — and then discounted.
