Quansah received his marching orders following a VAR intervention with referee Alireza Faghani initially not even penalising the young defender. He also give Mexico a penalty after VAR sent him to the pitch-side monitor for an infringement in the England penalty area, setting up a nervous finale for England. Tuchel was unhappy with both VAR calls, though, and tore into the referee and his support team during his post-match interview with BBC Sport. Asked about the officials, Tuchel replied: "Just not good enough. The referees just aren't good enough, fourth officials just not good enough. It's the bottom line. "Did I see that right? Three people on the VAR from South America, a match like this? I could be wrong, if this is correct... VAR overturns a clear and obvious mistake for the penalty, absolutely not. VAR gets involved. He didn't overturn a yellow into a red, he didn't even give the foul he then overturned a decision that he didn't give as a foul. "Referees not good enough, fourth officials not good enough." While answering a separate question, Tuchel again aimed another dig at Faghani over the time added on at the end of the second half as England fought to see out a huge win. "Everyone won a crazy match of football in a crazy atmosphere," he said. "We were up against all odds and even during the match, at the end it was 11 minutes and he gives two corners to make it 12... no, everything went against us, we didn't give in."
