‘Disgusting’ – Yobs shout during moment of silence for Venezuela earthquake victims in Uruguay vs Spain World Cup clash

FOOTBALL yobs interrupted a one-minute silence for Venezuela earthquake victims by shouting ahead of Uruguay’s World Cup clash against Spain. Venezuela has been rocked by devastating quakes that have left more than 900 people dead. Over 50,000 more are feared missing as rescue workers attempt to sift through the rubble to find survivors. World Cup stars paid tribute to the victims of the disaster with a moment of silence. But some fans in the stands decided to sour the gesture by shouting around the stadium. Supporters were left appalled by the behaviour as they made their thoughts clear on social media. READ MORE ON THE WORLD CUP One gave a scathing verdict and said: “Moment of silence for Venezuela and the idiots at the Spain Uruguay game yelling and screaming. “Show some respect.” Another added: “Poor from the crowd who couldn’t keep quiet during the minute’s silence before kick off.” A third said: “This ‘moment of silence on the Uruguay vs Spain dedicated to the Venezuela victims was the loudest there has been… disgusting.” Others dubbed the offenders “clowns” while some said: “So disrespectful.” Most read in Sport One added: “Who are these people in stadiums who refuse to respect a minute of silence?” Another commented: “Seriously, show a little respect for Venezuela.” A moment of silence before France’s 4-1 win over Norway was observed without any incident. The gesture was also performed ahead of Saudi Arabia’s clash with Cape Verde. It comes after the devastation in Venezuela killed promising young footballer Yimvert Berroteran at the age of just 18. The youngster was reportedly found under debris after being trapped for more than 24 hours. He played for the Venezuela youth team at the Under-17 World Cup last year. Meanwhile, footballer Hector Bello tragically lost his wife in the quakes after she shielded the couple’s one-year-old daughter. Miraculously, the toddler survived and was rescued in time. Bello, who plays as a defender for second division side Maritimo de La Guaira, paid tribute to his wife Andrea after their building collapsed in the disaster. In raw social media posts, Bello shared his heartbreak: “You left us alone in the fight, mummy. You left me all alone with our daughter.” He added in a second emotional message: “How do I tell that to my daughter? “Andrea, how do I explain to your daughter that you lost your life to save hers and I wasn’t there in that moment to do anything? “How do I explain? Give me strength now because I can’t take any more.”
