Tommy Fury survives mauling from 326lb Eddie Hall to secure points win in epic Misfits fight
TOMMY FURY survived a 100lb weight difference to secure a points win over former World’s Strongest Man Eddie Hall. Hall started well but Fury grew into the fight and took it on the scorecards, with guest judges Tony Bellew, Derek Chisora and Chase DeMoor scoring the fight 58-56, 58-56, 57-57. With partner Molly-Mae Hague ringside, Tommy Fury also revealed the name of his newborn son, Midas, walking out to Midnight Star classic ‘Midas Touch’ and having the name emblazoned across his jacket and front of his shorts. Fury entered the ring over 100lbs LIGHTER than the former World’s Strongest Man, with the incredibly size difference visually striking to those watching. The six-rounder started with Tommy very light on his toes, circling the much bigger Hall and trying to avoid pressure. Eddie Hall was on the front foot and tried to come forward, landing the best shot of the round late on, with TNT barely throwing as he tried to work out his much bigger opponent. Eddie’s plan was to try and get in close and throw big rights, while Fury was content with working behind the double jab. But with the rounds only lasting two minutes, it was Hall who produced the more eye-catching work. He planted his feet a bit more, working behind the jab but landing nicely – especially with Hall’s pace slowing after his early exertions. Round four was more of the same as TNT Fury looked a lot more comfortable in his work. Hall was still looking for that one big shot but, behind the double jab, Fury was putting together nice stuff. Late in the round, Hall did momentarily push Fury onto the ropes and was able to land a couple of good shots. By the fith, it was clear that Hall’s fuel tank was starting to hit dangerous levels. He was struggling to throw anything other than wild right hands, while Fury held the centre of the ring and worked behind his jab – careful to evade when the much bigger Hall lunged forward. Fury also looked to work the body more, just to push that gas tank to empty. As the two fighters entered the final round, the action intensity from both fighters increased as they each looked to leave it all on the line and find the big finish. At one point, Hall had Fury pinned and the two exchanged a flurry of punches – although very little landed. Fury did well to evade but he didn’t throw too much of his own. TNT was content to continue dancing away from the Beast as the fight went to the scorecards. Boxing legends Chisora and Bellew were in the judges chairs, along with Misfits champ Chase DeMoor, and they narrowly gave the win to Fury. After the fight DeMoor tried to spark a fight with Tommy, but TNT said he needed to fight his brother Roman first – with DeMoor then throwing a punch as security got involved.
