Bermondsey fire: 100 firefighters called to tackle massive blaze at recycling plant Firefighters have been tackling a huge blaze at a recycling centre in Bermondsey, south London A huge fire broke out at a recycling centre in south-east London, with thick smoke seen billowing across the skyline on Monday evening. Around 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines tackled the blaze at a building on Landmann Way in Bermondsey. Two of London Fire Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders also worked to extinguish the blaze. The cause of the fire is now under investigation by LFB. The inferno led to travel chaos as National Rail warned that rail services were disrupted to, from and through London Bridge. Key Events In their latest update the LFB confirmed that there are currently no reports of any injuries. According to National Rail, train services are yet to begin running normally again. The fire caused some lines to be blocked, with trains running to and from London Bridge being cancelled, revised or diverted. The cause of the blaze is now being investigated. Fifteen fire engines attended the scene in Landmann Way, Bermondsey, after receiving multiple calls at around 5.30pm, the fire service said. The LFB confirmed the fire was brought under control shortly before midnight and its cause is under investigation. The fire in Bermondsey is now under control. LFB are continuing to work at the scene to damp down remaining hotspots. A spokesperson for the brigade said: "There are currently no reports of any injuries. The cause of the fire is now under investigation." Southwark Council has passed on advice from London Fire Brigade urging local residents to keep their windows and doors closed. "We hope everyone in the area is safe," the council said. London Fire Brigade has said firefighters are making "steady progress". In its latest update on X, it said a Hose Layer Unit has been deployed to support frontline appliances. A Hose Layer Unit is also at the scene, London Fire Brigade has said in an update. The vehicle supports frontline appliances by laying large-capacity hose lines over long distances to supply water to the fireground. "This is likely to be a protracted incident, with crews remaining on scene into the morning," Station Commander Wayne Bloomfield said in an update on London Fire Brigade's website. Fires in railway areas present a serious safety risk, as they can damage signalling equipment, power systems, and track infrastructure, and create unsafe conditions for trains and staff." Services running to, from and through London Bridge have been cancelled, diverted or revised, with disruption expected until at least 8.45pm. Southeastern services are being diverted to London Victoria where possible, while Hastings line trains are starting and terminating at Tonbridge. Thameslink has suspended services between London Bridge and Dartford, with passengers advised to allow at least 45 minutes of additional journey time. Southeastern and Thameslink services remain heavily disrupted, though Southern services are continuing to run normally to and from London Bridge. The London Overground's Windrush line is also affected. Rail services from London Bridge are being delayed or diverted via alternative routes due to a fire in a building near railway tracks in Bermondsey. The fire has caused major disruption to a number of Southeastern services passing through the London Bridge area. Some services are currently at a standstill. Around 100 firefighters are tackling a blaze at a recycling centre on Landmann Way in Bermondsey. Southeastern has said the fire is at a property next to railway tracks. The rail operator said trains to and from London Bridge are being diverted via alternative routes. It added that customers can use their Southeastern tickets at no extra cost on London Underground services between London terminals, the Elizabeth Line, High Speed services on all routes, and the DLR on all routes.
